Awning frame color and its effect
on the ambience and mood

The whole world is full of colour - no matter where we look. The biologically and evolutionarily most important colour is green. But other colours are also found in nature: lifeless grey, striking red or sunny yellow. Colours are nature's guidance systems and give us signals. The impression of colours is very subjective and strongly dependent on the surrounding colours and light. Everyone has their own personal approach to colours and it has been proven that people see colours differently. As there is a subjective perception of colour, the question of the best colour for an awning cannot always be answered in the same way.

The colour of your awning not only has a visual impact on your home and living space: it also influences the atmosphere and creates an individual ambient. The colour design of the awning also influences your mood and sense of well-being. Effective solar protection is therefore not the only function of awning covers; they also have a decisive influence on the colour mood and atmosphere under an awning. For even more colourful shade, markilux offers an extensive collection with more than 200 cover patterns made from the innovative high-tech polyester and acrylic fabrics sunvas, sunsilk and sunbow, as well as fabrics from the markilux specials collection. To help you make a well-considered choice of colour, we will take you on a tour of the markilux colour families and explain the effects of the different colours on the human mind on the one hand and on garden design on the other.

The answer to the question "Which awning colour is best?" always depends on the mood you want to create. Colours don't just have positive effects indoors. Using colour outdoors can be a highlight for garden design. Plain, plain awning fabrics are just as justified and create a unique colour effect.

What effect does the choice of colour have
on the fabric cover of an awning?

The largest surface of the awning is the awning cover. You sit under the large fabric cover and consciously or unconsciously perceive the awning colour. The choice of awning fabric should therefore be well thought out. What should you consider? What effect does the colour of the awning cover have? Does the colour effect differ in outdoor use?

  • the lighting mood on the patio or balcony

  • the lighting mood in the neighbouring room

  • the feel-good atmosphere

  • the brightness or darkening

As colour perception is very subjective and depends on various factors such as lighting conditions, we recommend that you view and compare fabric samples at your markilux specialist dealer or in the markilux showroom.

Awning light or dark?
Does the awning colour have an influence on UV-protection?

markilux awning fabrics offer the highest level of protection in dark colours. With lighter colours (up to plain white), less of the UV radiation is retained. All markilux fabric covers generally achieve the highest possible sun protection factor for textiles (UPF +50)*. As the awning covers achieve the same protection factor, the question of whether the awning should be light or dark is more a matter of personal taste.

*The UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) indicates how much longer you can be exposed to the sun with solar protection. Fabrics with a UPF 50+ sun protection factor allow you to sunbathe fifty times longer without getting sunburnt, taking into account the skin's own protection time.

Which awning colour is best?
Coloured or non-coloured?

The question "Which awning colour is the best?" can be answered in many different ways. Each colour spectrum has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of UV-protection and colour effect. Choosing the colour of your awning is therefore an issue that should not be neglected. After all, you spend many hours under your awning.

For our designer Annette Busch, one thing is clearly fixed: we need more courage to use colour! For some time now, the world around us has seemed somehow colourless. Wherever you look, grey or cream tones usually meet the eye. This trend even prevails for awning covers. Yet they have so much more potential to light up the world. Imagine using only non-coloured, grey shades. This would create a dull, uninspiring atmosphere. Yet we want to create a colour family on the patio and in the garden that stands out from dull, rainy days and gives us energy.

The colour spectrum offers so much more than just grey. If you don't necessarily want to go straight for the brightest awning colour, our collection one also offers compromises. Bright, delicate colours bring a splash of colour to the patio and stand out from the neutral, colourless, grey world.
