The Kern winery and
the dream of a new outdoor area

The aim was to create an inviting place of comfort and enjoyment. This includes recurring structures that create harmony, sheltered corners to retreat to, but also the opportunity to gather around a large table in a convivial atmosphere.

In the past, the outdoor area could only be used in the summer months when the weather was fine, but now, thanks to the markilux sun and weather protection systems installed as part of the project, it can be used almost all year round. As well as extending the outdoor dining season, this also means an increase in capacity: more space for more guests.

Various sun shading systems configured into an overall concept

Outdoor areas on old buildings, such as the courtyard at the historic Kern winery, have developed their very own flair over the decades: Angled corners due to extensions or now large, quaint overgrown shrubs, hedges, façade greenery or trees. When large-scale shading is required, different sun shading systems often have to be combined with each other so as not to destroy the outdoor charm that has developed over time. The challenge here is to ensure that the shading still looks as if it is part of a single overall concept. But this also works perfectly if you have a partner at your side who has a complete overview and offers everything from a single source.

Perfect planning thanks to 3D visualization

The digitally realistic, moving visualizations in particular show whether the shading will later fit harmoniously into the overall concept. And that doesn't just mean the design. Visualizations can also be used to check work processes with regard to any new bottlenecks that may arise between the kitchen, (outdoor) bar, outdoor catering or other outdoor areas. At the Kern winery, for example, there was a requirement for forklift trucks to be able to continue transporting wine barrels under the sun protection structure. With 3D animations, this requirement could be played out digitally and realistically.

Weather protection systems for planning reliability in outdoor areas

With sun protection systems that stand on their own feet and are equipped with rainproof fabric covers, you have created an outdoor area where guests feel comfortable even when it's wet outside. These systems are particularly ideal if you are spontaneously surprised by a summer thunderstorm and can still watch the cooling weather capers with a dry head. Another advantage is that the host can now permanently upgrade their outdoor area with higher-quality seating, such as upholstered lounge furniture, without it suffering from wind and weather.

For even more coziness: light and warmth

Together with radiant heaters and lighting systems, outdoor dining can be extended into the deep evening hours or well into late fall. Warmth and warm light provide a cozy factor that makes guests want to stay outside even when it's colder outside. A bright and warm outdoor area is also very inviting. The open outdoor ambience alone can attract new guests.
