markilux vertical and glass roof awnings ensure a better climate at Villa Tapas

Rooms that are enclosed by a lot of glass can heat up considerably due to the warmth of the sunlight. The operator of Villa Tapas, a restaurant in the Dutch city of Assen, a good 30 kilometers south of Groningen, also experienced this. To allow guests to enjoy the bright, open atmosphere in more pleasant temperatures, the restaurateur had part of the building shaded by markilux awning systems.

Located in the center of Assen, in the west of the province of Drenthe, the modern glass building of the Villa Tapas restaurant, which extends over two levels, is reminiscent of an oversized greenhouse. Around 170 square meters of glass give the building with its 200 seats a transparent, airy character. However, this design also had its disadvantages. The markilux awning systems solved this problem, which means that less energy is now required to air-condition the interior of the restaurant.

Reduced heat input into the building due to shading of the glass roof

Seven partially coupled on-glazed awnings of our markilux 8800 model were installed on an area of 166 square meters. Special track brackets first had to be manufactured for this. The new sun protection system has already reduced the heat input.

Glare and heat protection for the glass façade

The entire western glass front was also shaded. Eight vertical blinds were installed across a width of 20 meters, each a good five meters high. The restaurateur chose a transparent screen fabric to allow guests to continue to enjoy the view outside. The combination of on-glazing and translucent vertical blinds maintains the friendly, bright feeling of the space and at the same time creates a better climate in the building.

Wind-resistant awning system

As the awnings are equipped with our 'tracfix' system, which guides the fabric cover flush in the transport rails, the fabric cover offers the wind hardly any surface to attack. This is particularly important for such large systems. The material is thus protected and disruptive wind noise is avoided.
