The restaurant “Fuegos del Sur” offers a spectacular view of the runway at Freiburg Airfield from its terrace with seating for around 100 guests. To ensure diners can enjoy this view from spring through to autumn, the terrace now features a generous awning ensemble from manufacturer markilux. It has since expanded the guest area by over 100 square metres of weatherproof outdoor seating.

In “Fuegos del Sur”, a restaurant offering Patagonian fusion cuisine, you are practically sitting right next to the runway of Freiburg's small aircraft airfield and, at the same time, opposite the new “Europa-Park” stadium, home to SC Freiburg football club. The restaurant’s owners wanted to make this prime viewing point even more attractive for their guests and therefore had the approximately 115-square-metre outdoor terrace equipped with markilux awnings.

The open space now offers a good 100 seats with all-round protection from the sun, wind and rain. “From spring to autumn, it can be used as an extended guest area and event location. A sheltered seating area has proved to be very important to the business customer,” Jan Kattenbeck explains. He is head of “markilux project”, a team that plans and supports projects of this kind together with local specialist dealers.

When it came to selecting the awning system, the restaurant opted for the “pergola stretch” model, a wall-mounted structure supported by two front posts per unit. The configuration in use here consists of several units linked together and can be controlled automatically. It was also complemented with several sets of vertical roller blinds. They can be lowered as a windbreak if needed and, together with the “format triangle” model, allow the restaurant terrace to be divided up on the inside. All vertical blinds have a panoramic window for transparency, plenty of light and an unobstructed view of the outside. And in the evening, LED Lines on the supporting structure of the awning system guarantee an attractive lighting atmosphere.

For systems of this size, markilux does not just support the local specialist dealers commissioned by their customers in the form of visualisations and reliable planning. markilux has fitted the restaurant terrace of “Fuegos del Sur” in Freiburg with a large awning system used as all-round weather protection. Since then, the open-air space has been used as an extended dining area with seating for around 100 guests and as a location for holding events from early spring right through to late autumn.
