The most beautiful fabric
When extended - and even when closed in the case of open awnings - the color of the awning has a significant influence on the overall appearance of your sun protection, solar protection. "Which awning fabric to choose?" is the question that arises in view of the large selection. In addition to our awning fabric finder, the following points will also help you to answer this crucial question:
Depending on whether you want to buy a pergola awning in the garden, a freestanding awning by the pool, a balcony awning or a vertical awning, consider the visual characteristics of the surroundings. If you want your awning to blend discreetly into the landscape, choose the color that dominates the location. As a rule, you can't go wrong with muted and classic colors such as anthracite, brown, green, beige and blue. If you deliberately want to make a colorful statement, opt for colorful awning fabrics in yellow, orange or red. If you would like other trendy colors for your awning, such as turquoise or pink, we will be happy to create these for you on request.
Consider the shade of the awning: when the sun is shining, the sun's rays reflect the color of the awning fabric and bathe all objects under the awning in an atmospheric light. What color do you want the shade of your awning to be? What is the color that puts you in a good mood? And which one suits the mood you want to create on your patio or balcony?
Although all markilux awning fabrics from the sunsilk and sunvas collections offer the highest possible UV protection (UPF 50+), more or less light can shine through the awning depending on the brightness of the chosen fabric color. This effect is beautifully accentuated by light and dark striped awning covers.
You can also optimally complement the color concept that determines the interior design of your home with the matching awning frame color in the outdoor area. In this way, your "outdoor living room" reflects the cosiness of your interior spaces and forms a visual unit with them.
If you would like a specific color for your awning, we can optionally produce your awning cover in RAL as part of our colour-on-demand service. Here you can choose from a selection of 1,625 colors.

How do creases form?
Creases occur when the sun protection fabric is made up and folded. In the folded area, a dark line can become visible against the light, especially with light colors, which is caused by buckling of the fiber (light refraction).
Puckering in the fabric panel seams and webs
These can occur along the side seams, in the seam area and in the middle of the panels. The fabric cover is doubled at the seams. This results in different roll-up diameters. The tension created by the lateral arms, the tesioning system, the sagging of the winding shaft and/or the front profile can promote these effects. Waviness, puckering can also occur if a "water pooling" has formed during heavy rain.
How rain resistant is my awning cover?
Sun protection fabrics, solar protection fabrics are impregnated with a water-repellent finish and remain rain-resistant during short, light rain resistance when used according to the manufacturer's instructions and at a pitch of at least 14°. During longer periods of wetness and/or heavy rainfall, the awning must remain closed or be retracted to prevent damage. Once the fabric cover has become wet, the awning must be extended again to dry immediately after the rain to avoid mildew stains.
What are side hems?
The fabric cover is usually kept almost permanently under tension by an active spring system. Seams and hems act as reinforcement, but must also be able to withstand the greatest stress. When the fabric cover is rolled up, the hems and seams lie on top of each other, which increases the pressure and tension. As a result, they are particularly stressed and stretched. This can cause the side seams to hang down slightly when the awning is extended.
How do I care for my awning cover properly?
Dust can be removed with a soft brush when dry. Leaves and similar soiling should be removed immediately. Small stains should be removed with water and a commercially available, preferably liquid mild detergent (5% soap solution, water temperature max. 30 °C). Rinse thoroughly with water.
